My Clean Desk

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 26, 2026

This document is a plain-language summary, not legal advice. Have a lawyer licensed in Ontario, Canada review it before relying on it.

1. Who we are

My Clean Desk is made by Design by Miz, an independent studio based in Ontario, Canada. This policy covers the website mycleandesk.com and the My Clean Desk Mac app. Questions? Email hello@designbymiz.com.

2. The app collects nothing

The My Clean Desk app does not require an account and does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. It has no ads, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind. Its only network activity is checking for new versions (over HTTPS); that request carries only the information needed to tell whether an update is available, such as the app version, and no personal data. You can turn automatic update checks off in the app's Settings.

3. Purchases and payments

If you get a license through this website (mycleandesk.com/buy/), checkout is handled by Paddle.com Market Ltd ("Paddle"), our Merchant of Record. Paddle is the seller of record for your purchase and processes your payment, any tax, and your receipt — see Paddle's privacy policy for how Paddle handles your data. We receive order confirmations (including the email address you used at checkout) but never your full card details.

To deliver your license, our license service receives your checkout email address and order reference from Paddle and emails you your license key (delivery runs on Cloudflare Workers and sends mail via Resend). Your license then activates entirely offline — the app makes no network calls to activate (see section 2).

4. The website uses Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. Google Analytics collects standard, aggregated usage information such as the pages you view, how you arrived, your approximate location (derived from your IP address, which Google Analytics 4 anonymizes), and general device and browser details. This is done using cookies and similar technologies.

We use this information only in aggregate to understand traffic and usage. We do not sell your personal information. Google processes this data on our behalf; see Google's Privacy Policy for how Google handles it.

5. Cookies and how to opt out

The website sets Google Analytics cookies. You can:

The app itself sets no cookies and uses no tracking technologies.

6. How we use your information

Canada's federal privacy law, PIPEDA, works on knowledge and consent: we collect and use personal information with your consent, for purposes a reasonable person would consider appropriate — understanding how the website is used (analytics), fulfilling your license order and delivering your license (purchase data), and answering you when you write to us (contact details).

Where other privacy laws, like the EU and UK GDPR, ask us to name a legal basis: analytics runs on your consent; purchase data is processed because it's necessary to complete your order and deliver your license; we answer email on our legitimate interest in responding to you; and order records are kept because tax law requires it. We do not sell your personal information.

7. Data sharing

A small set of providers help us run things, and each gets only what its job needs:

We never sell or rent your personal information. We may disclose information if required by law. Some of these providers — including Paddle and Google — process data on servers outside Canada, such as in the United States; while it's there it's subject to that country's laws.

8. Security

We keep the data footprint small to begin with: the app collects nothing, this website is static with no user accounts, and your card details go straight to Paddle — they never touch our systems. What we do hold is protected with technical and organisational measures: everything travels over HTTPS, and access to our email and provider dashboards is limited to the business owner.

9. How long we keep it

Only as long as we need it. Analytics data ages out automatically on Google Analytics' retention schedule; emails are kept while the conversation might still matter, then deleted; order records are kept for as long as Canadian tax and accounting law requires. When we no longer need personal data, we delete it or anonymise it.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under Canada's PIPEDA, or the GDPR in the EU and UK), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. To make a request, email hello@designbymiz.com. The app itself collects nothing, and website analytics are aggregated — the personal data we hold about you is generally limited to order records and any email you've sent us. If you're not satisfied with how we've handled your request, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

11. Children

My Clean Desk and this website are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the website or app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
